Got to Atlanta yesterday afternoon and late this morning I started setting up the second speed timing system at Stone Summit for the USAC Nationals 2012. We now have two 2-lane speed climbing systems installed and ready for speed qualifiers tomorrow!
Here we are during setup and testing this morning – setters are Ian and Scott (great help!). The IFSC 2-lane speed wall on the right, the category C and D youth will be on the left. We have a much longer speed route for the C and D category on the left than in years past…not quite 10 meters and of course, the C and D route is not the IFSC speed route of the older competitors. The American Flag will go between the two North Face banners once it arrives – a great 4th of July.
The qualifiers will be a huge day of difficulty and speed climbing. For speed climbing there are 158 female competitors and 177 male competitors registered. Each climber will do two climbs, the fastest of the two times will be used to determine whether they move on to the semi finals. So, that’s 335 competitors X 2 climbs each. These systems will take 670 speed climbs tomorrow!
Both timing systems, the one that Stone Summit purchased and installed about a month ago and a brand new, identical system I had shipped, are now locked loaded. Bring it on!
I’ll try to update this blog as much as I can from Atlanta during the 4-day event.
